Following Services We Provide
Dandenong is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria. It is located 30 kilometres south-east of the central business district of Melbourne (CBD). The Woiwurrung Indigenous Australian tribe originally inhabited the area. Its current name was even derived from Woiwurrung words.
There are three theories surrounding the origin of the suburb’s name. The first claims that the name was a derivative of the Woiwurrung word, “Tanjenong”, meaning “lofty mountains”. This term is believed to refer to the mountain ranges near the area.
Another theory states that the name came from a local word for “bad flour” or “no good damper”. There was a local tale about local aboriginals getting a bag of lime and mistakenly using it to make a damper. While the third theory says that the name came from burning bushfires in the area.
